The week ahead: 11/07/22
We’ve got earnings in the financial sector this week, including JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, US Bancorp, PNC, State Street and BlackRock, plus figures from Pepsico, Delta and UnitedHealth. Key data includes UK, eurozone, Chinese, Japanese and US industrial production, Australian employment, German, French and US CPI, and the OPEC oil market report.
Monday 11 July
While it’s generally a quiet start to the week, in Japan we can look to the latest machinery orders data and the M3 money supply for June. Later on Monday morning we’ve got Italian retail sales for May, while in the US the Conference Board releases its employment trends index for June at 3pm (UK time).

Tuesday 12 July
Early on Tuesday the BRC retail sales monitor for the UK and the Australian NAB business confidence index are both released, while later in the morning we’ll see the Germany and eurozone ZEW economic sentiment indices. In the afternoon OPEC issues its monthly oil market report, after last month maintaining its forecast that global oil demand would rise by 3.36 million barrels per day in 2022. Food and drinks firm Pepsico also reports Q2 earnings to the market.

Wednesday 13 July
Inflation is in the spotlight on Wednesday with CPI data due for Germany, France and the US. We’ll also get the latest Chinese and UK trade balance figures, plus UK and eurozone industrial production and the US Fed’s beige book of current economic conditions. Earnings are scheduled from supply chain solutions firm Fastenal and US airline Delta, recently struggling to manage oversold flights and staffing shortages.
Thursday 14 July
Dow component JPMorgan Chase reports on Thursday, along with financial services firm Morgan Stanley, multinational manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor, business services provider Cintas and consumer goods firm Conagra Brands. Among the macroeconomic news we’ve got Australian employment data (after the number of people in work rose by 61,000 in May, the seventh consecutive increase) plus Japanese industrial production and US PPI.
Friday 15 July
We end the week with results from Dow component UnitedHealth, which recently struck a deal to acquire GP IT firm EMIS. Figures are also due from financial services firms Wells Fargo, Citigroup, US Bancorp, PNC and State Street, and the world’s largest asset manager BlackRock. Data includes China’s GDP, industrial production and retail sales, the eurozone trade balance and, in the US, retail sales, import and export price indices, the New York Empire State manufacturing index, industrial production and the University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey.
