The week ahead: 13/02/23
We’ll see some key economic indicators this week, with US, UK and French CPI, UK labour market data, and US and UK retail sales figures all set to be published. Earnings are expected from Coca-Cola, Airbnb, América Móvil, Marriott International, Barclays, Cisco, Commerzbank, Applied Materials, Airbus, NatWest, Deere & Co, Mercedes-Benz and Allianz.
Monday 13 February
We kick off the week with earnings from design software company Cadence, networking hardware firm Arista, electric utility FirstEnergy, car rental group Avis Budget, big data firm Palantir, IT security provider Check Point, office property owner Vornado and enterprise software firm Teradata. Late in the day, in Japan, the first estimate of GDP for the fourth quarter is released.

Tuesday 14 February

Beverage firm Coca-Cola posts earnings on Tuesday, along with rental marketplace Airbnb, Mexican mobile network América Móvil, Canadian energy firm Suncor, hotel chain Marriott International, mining company Glencore, fast-food brand operator RBI, electric utility Exelon, hydrocarbon explorer Devon, medtech provider PerkinElmer, cybersecurity firm Akamai, German engineering conglomerate ThyssenKrupp and electronics retail group Ceconomy. Macroeconomic data includes the Australian NAB business confidence, Japanese industrial production, the UK average earnings and claimant count change, eurozone Q4 GDP and the US January CPI (with US annual price inflation standing at 6.5% in December), plus the OPEC monthly oil production report.

Wednesday 15 February
UK bank Barclays reports to the market on Wednesday, after reports last week that the FCA is investigating its anti-money laundering systems. Updates are also due from US tech firm Cisco, semiconductor maker Analog Devices, Canadian e-commerce platform Shopify, data centre operator Equinix, electronic design automation firm Synopsys, insurance groups Manulife and AIG, biotech multinational Biogen, waste management firm Waste Connections, US hydrocarbon explorer Marathon Oil, chemicals firm Albemarle and retail group Dunelm. Also look out for the latest UK CPI and PPI inflation data, eurozone and US industrial production, US retail sales and eurozone and Japanese trade balance updates.
Thursday 16 February
We’ll get updates on Thursday from aerospace group Airbus (after last week revealing that deliveries fell by a third in January year-on-year), German bank Commerzbank, engineering firm Applied Materials, energy utilities Southern and Entergy, CAC 40 component Pernod Ricard, data analytics firm Relx, steel and aluminium company Reliance, construction materials producer Vulcan, financial services firm Standard Chartered, toy and game company Hasbro and UK price comparison group Moneysupermarket. We’ll also see the latest Australian employment change, US building permits, housing starts and PPI, and the February Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index.

Friday 17 February
In the UK on Friday the retail sales figures for January are released, after sales volumes fell by 1.0% in December. Keep an eye out too for the latest French CPI and the US import and export price indices. Earnings are due from UK banking group NatWest, agricultural machinery firm Deere & Co, US energy utility CenterPoint, German car group Mercedes-Benz, commercial property firm Segro, Swiss biotech investor BB Biotech, insurance and asset management company Allianz and US entertainment company AMC Networks.
