The week ahead: 08/11/21

Over a quarter of the DAX 40 reports this week, with earnings from Henkel, Bayer, Munich Re, Allianz, Adidas, Infineon, E.ON, Continental, Siemens, RWE and Deutsche Telekom. Other highlights include inflation figures for China, Germany and the US on Wednesday and the first UK GDP data for the third quarter on Thursday.

Monday 8 November

We start the week with earnings from DAX 40 component Henkel (which recently formed a beauty consortium to investigate the environmental impact of cosmetics), cinema chain AMC, pharmaceutical firm Viatris, game developer Zynga and cosmetics firm Coty. Meanwhile the finance ministers of eurozone countries will be meeting to discuss macroeconomic developments in the euro area.

Tuesday 9 November

On Tuesday we’ve got the UK’s BRC retail sales monitor, French and German trade balance data, the ZEW survey of German economic sentiment and US PPI. Quarterly figures are expected from Chinese carmaker Nio, pharma firm Bayer, data analytics software provider Palantir, travel website Tripadvisor, insurance company Munich Re, food distributor Sysco and healthcare services company Cardinal Health.

   Walt Disney chart: 05/11/21

Entertainment group Walt Disney posts full-year earnings on Wednesday, a week after rival Viacom reported strength in its streaming platforms. We’re also due results from financial services provider Allianz, sportswear brand Adidas, semiconductor manufacturer Infineon, electric utility E.ON, tyre-maker Continental, IT consulting firm Aveva and UK retailer Marks & Spencer. Among the macroeconomic data, keep an eye out for the Chinese, German and US CPI figures, the US weekly jobless claims and crude oil inventories, and the US federal budget balance.

Thursday 11 November

Early on Thursday the Australian employment figures are released, followed later by UK business investment and GDP for the third quarter. The final Q2 GDP showed quarterly growth in the UK of 5.5%. We’ll also see the latest UK trade balance, and industrial and manufacturing production. Earnings come from tech conglomerate Siemens, steel producer ArcelorMittal, German energy company RWE, insurance firm Aviva, corporate finance group 3i, fashion house Burberry, housebuilder Taylor Wimpey and UK retailer WH Smith.

Friday 12 November

Pharma firm AstraZeneca reports to the market on Friday, along with German telecoms group Deutsche Telekom. After eurozone industrial production figures in the morning, we’ll have the US JOLTs (which last time out showed a record number of Americans quitting their jobs) and the University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey.
