MT4 incorporates a package of 30 technical indicators that you can apply to live and historic market data and use to test your trading strategy. You can trade direct from your chart, and add your own custom indicators and expert advisors to the platform, giving you the power to automate your trading strategy.
Once you’ve downloaded MT4 to your PC you can use our customised Direct MT4 terminal. If you’d prefer to use the classic MT4 interface please see our MT4 Basics.

For trading on the move you can also use our mobile apps:

Direct MT4 terminal

To activate the Direct MT4 terminal you should:

  1. Click to expand ‘Expert Advisors’ in the Navigator window
    (What is an expert advisor?)
  2. Find ‘Intertrader – Trade terminal’ and drag it onto any open chart
  3. This will run the expert advisor and open the Direct MT4 terminal in the main workspace of the platform

If you want, you can remove the Direct MT4 terminal from the rest of the platform by clicking Settings (in the bottom window) and selecting ‘Undock terminal’.

Place your first trades and orders

First find your market by either selecting a market type in the Markets window or by entering the market name in the Symbol box.

Then either click Trade or Order in the market listing. This will open an order placement window for this market. If you click Trade you will have the option of placing a Buy or a Sell order. If you click Order you will have the option of placing a range of different stop, limit or OCO orders.

Once you’ve placed your trade or order it will immediately appear in the bottom window. Click the cross symbol to close any trade/order or the tools symbol to edit any trade/order. Open position sizes and floating P/L will also be shown against individual markets in the market listing.

Quick deal tickets

You can also trade using our Direct MT4 quick deal tickets. Simply enter your position size and any Stop Loss or Take Profit distances, then click the Buy or the Sell price (the live market price and spread width are constantly updating in the ticket).

View your total open position size on this market in the top field (negative for short positions). You can click this field for a range of options to close your open positions. Press CTRL and click in any of the other fields to bring up a powerful calculator for this entry, allowing you, for instance, to set your position size at a desired risk level relative to your account equity or balance.

You can access quick deal tickets either in the Quick Trading window or by switching from list view to ticket view in the main window. Alternatively, attach the expert advisor ‘Intertrader – Mini terminal’ to any open chart to attach a quick deal ticket to the chart (which you can then undock from the terminal using the Settings menu).

Integrated trading tools

The Direct MT4 terminal comes complete with a full set of news and analysis tools, accessed direct from the top window. This includes technical analysis from Trading Central, a live audio news service from Livesquawk and live trading signals with full research.

Classic MT4 interface

Of course you don’t have to use our Direct MT4 terminal to use the MT4 platform with Intertrader. Either way you get No Dealing Desk spread betting or CFDs with our 100% hedging policy. For help getting started with the MT4 platform see:

When you trade with Intertrader you are choosing a trusted provider with an exceptional track record

Spread betting and CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 78% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading these products with this provider.
You should consider whether you understand how these products work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.
