The week ahead: 04/04/22

This week’s economic calendar includes German and Australian trade balance figures, eurozone retail sales, French, German, eurozone, UK, US and Chinese services PMI data, plus construction PMI figures for France, Germany, the eurozone and the UK. Earnings include Lindsay, Constellation Brands and Conagra Brands.

Monday 4 April

On Monday we’re due to see Germany’s trade balance for February. In January the German trade surplus stood at €9.4 billion, imports increasing 22.1% year-on-year. Later in the US look out for the latest factory orders and the Conference Board’s employment trends index.

Tuesday 5 April

Early on Tuesday, Japanese household spending figures are released, and the RBA’s decision on Australian interest rates is announced. Throughout the day we’ll have services PMI data for France, Germany, the eurozone, the UK and the US, plus in the afternoon the US trade balance and the ISM’s non-manufacturing PMI. Irrigations systems manufacturer Lindsay also reports to the market, after last month announcing a strategic partnership with Blyncsy.

Wednesday 6 April

At 2.45am on Wednesday the Chinese services PMI data is published, while later in the day we’ll also get construction PMI figures for France, Germany, the eurozone and the UK. Also keep an eye out for German factory orders and eurozone retail sales. Last time out Eurostat revealed a weaker-than-expected 0.2% monthly rise in January for a 7.8% increase year-on-year.

   Constellation Brands chart: 01/04/22

US beer, wine and spirits producer Constellation Brands reports Q4 earnings on Thursday, amid speculation over a potential merger with beverage rival Monster. Figures are also due from consumer goods holding company Conagra Brands, while among the macroeconomic data we’ll see the latest Australian trade balance, the Halifax index of UK house prices, and German industrial production.

Friday 8 April

We’ve got a very light schedule for earnings and data announcements on Friday. The Japanese current account for February is published overnight, while later in the morning we’ll have Spanish industrial production and Italian retail sales.
